Rochester and Cobham Classic

One of the stand-out venues on the BJGT, Rochester & Cobham Park certainly didn’t disappoint, they even organised the sun again, which they seem to manage every year!

With the course being set up for Open qualifying in 2-weeks, the rough was high, and the greens firm, but this certainly didn’t stop our field setting the standard for them to follow.

Our thanks, as always, go to Richard Jarmak for all his help in setting the event up, a team of starters on the 1st tee, the clubhouse staff who put on a lovely BBQ to make the most of the glorious sunshine, and Bob, the club captain for handing out the trophies.

The Boys Junior Open saw the second hole-in-one on the BJGT this season as home-club member Riley Dowle aced the second hole, so our congratulations go to him, especially as this was his first one.

Riley kept the adrenaline in check to card a round of 72 to deservedly take the honours in the Gross Division, four shots clear of Oliver Brightman (76) in second, with Will Hunt (77) completing the Top 3 a single shot further back.
Another home club player, Michael Haywood, topped the leaderboard in the Net Division as he fired a brilliant 68 to edge out Will and Riley by 2-shots, as they had matching rounds of 70, and needed a countback to separate them, with Will getting the decision over the back 9.

Amelia McGinty claimed another victory in the Girls Gross Division, as her 87 was good enough to finish 4-shots clear of Una Gibson in second.
Abigail Tang continued her good form this season, which should see her handicap tumble, as she carded a Net 62 to take top spot with a 10-shot margin over home club player Mia McManus (72) who took home the silver trophy on her BJGT debut.

Freddie Buck headed a quality field in the Boys 9-12 Division, firing a superb 74 to edge Jenson Ringer by a single shot.  Alexander Dunmall completing the podium with his 78.
William Denyer secured his first victory on the BJGT after having his lowest ever back 9 on his way to a Net 62.  Jenson had a double silver finish on the day after his 66, with Freddie (67) adding a bronze to his gold in third place.

Harry Odell had one of the rounds of the day in the 9-10 Division as he shot a superb 1-under 36 for the front 9 to take the honours ahead of Darcy Eaton (41).  Darcy continues to put himself amongst the trophies this season, and Harrison Barnett in third edged a countback decision over Maybel Brooks as they had matching 43’s.

Zachary Blayney had a very impressive level-par round of 38 to give him another title for the 2023 season in the 7-8 Division. Zachary’s great rival, Brody MacIver settled for the silver trophy on this occasion after his round of 40, with Hoah Norman (41) completing the Top 3 on another impressive showing in his debut season.
Scarlett Konecny took the girls title on her first BJGT appearance with a fine round of 45 that placed her impressively 5th overall.

The 6&Under Division was headed by Oscar Robertson after his round of 44 gave him a 5-shot victory margin over Louie Goh (49) in second place, with Euan Do completing the podium just two shots further back.
Brianne Yang had a superb round to take the gold trophy in the girls division, and deservedly so, as her total of 48 placed her second in the overall standings.

The BJGT now looks forward to Father’s Day next Sunday and the Langdon Hills Classic on our second visit to the club where we hope this beautiful weather continues.
