Coronavirus break…What break?! The BJGT juniors are back with a bang and some superb scoring!
Wycombe Heights hosted over 100 juniors for the first BJGT event since March following the COVID-19 lockdown, and what an amazing job they did! Both courses were in amazing condition, the clubhouse and Pro Shop were setup for social distancing, and there was space reserved for us outside in order to keep everyone safe – many thanks for having us! Special thanks also go to Rattan Garden Furniture Ltd (Alfresco Living) for kindly sponsoring this event.

Junior Open Category

The Junior Open Boys Gross Division returned with an almost customary tie at the top, as James Brash (Foxhills) and BJGT debutant Jason Pelly (Wentworth) required a countback to separate matching 71s, with James coming out on top by virtue of a better back 9. Harry O’Shea (The Links, Newmarket) was just a single shot back in third.

Roisin Scanlon (Woburn) returned to the BJGT and promptly secured the Girls Gross Division with a total of 78 to edge out Leah Ribano (Northampton GC) who finished second after a round of 80. Tilly O’Leary (Wanstead) took third place with 81.

The Net Division saw some amazing scores, with Maisie Whittall (Gaudet Luce) topping the table with a superb 63 ahead of James Brash who added a runner-up trophy to his day’s haul, but only after a second countback, this time from Zizi-Mai Wilkins (Enville), after they both posted rounds of 65.

11-12 Category

The Boys 11-12 Division was just as close as the Junior Open, as the top spot was again decided by a countback, with Harry Howell (Gog Magog) and Ronnie Groves (Enville) carding matching 75s, with the former edging out the Order of Merit leader on this occasion. Third place was again just a single shot back after Josh Gardner posted a fine 76.

9-10 Category

The Boys 9-10 Division incredibly produced the third identical finish for the top three places, as Michael Haywood (Gravesend) and Tristan Evans (West Herts) fired rounds of 38, with countback coming out in favour of Michael over the last 6 holes. Alexander Perry (Gaudet Luce) took third place on his BJGT debut with a fine round of 39 and we are sure that this will fire his competitive spirit!
Amelie Jones (Stoke Park) secured the top spot in the Girls Division after a great round of 48 – it was nice to have four girls playing in the age group, as we look to continue to increase participation of girls in our tournaments.

7-8 Category

It was just as close in the Boys 7-8 Division, but the winner, Alexander Dunmall (Kings Hill), was one shot ahead of a 2-way tie for second. His brilliant level par 35 was enough to leave Jenson Ringer (Rochester & Cobham Park) and Freddie Buck (Hadley Wood) fighting it out for second after matching 36s, with Jenson taking second decided by the last 6 holes.
Georgia Groves (Enville) added another winner’s trophy to her cabinet in the Girls Division after a fine round of 42. With another four girls competing in this age group, the overall number of girls is definitely on the up!

6 & Under Category

The full 18-hole short course was the challenge faced by the 6 & Under Division and it was Marcus Karim (Chesfield Downs) who took the spoils after a superb round of 72 ahead of Order of Merit leader, Theo Oderinde (Windlesham), in second (76). Another BJGT debut trophy went to Oliver Kayne (North Middlesex) for his third place finish (87).

No rest as we now head to the 3-day Summer Cup at Macdonald Hill Valley Resort next week, so it’s a flying start to the BJGT comeback!
