A wonderful part of the country, a stunning golf course, and glorious weather – what more could we and the players have asked for!
Sunningdale Heath opened up their course for the day, and Tom and Warren and the rest of the team were fantastic hosts – thank you so much and we certainly hope that Sunningdale Heath will become a regular fixture on the BJGT schedule!
This was also the first outing for our collaboration with GolfHubber to provide live scoring at BJGT events and this was also a resounding success, allowing not only those on the course, but also friends and family far and wide to see how players were doing in real time.
Junior Open Category
Sunningdale Heath may not be the longest course that we have on the schedule, but it is certainly one of the trickiest to negotiate, which made the -1 total of 57 from Foxhills player, James Brash, an outstanding score which thoroughly deserved the Boys Gross title. Micah Blowers (Colchester GC) fired a level par round to ‘only’ finish second when that would have won many a tournament here, with Jason Pelley (Wentworth GC) taking third after his round of 61.
The Girls Gross Division was headed by Ciara Egan (Woburn GC) on her return to the BJGT, as she also fired a fantastic level par round of 61 to give her a 4-shot victory over Ciara Rushmer (Boyce Hill), who came home in second.
James then duly claimed the Net Division title too, for an event double, as his 52 placed him top of the table, but only after a countback with Joshua Saw (Windlesham GC), who matched James’s score. Ciara Egan grabbed third again on countback ahead of Micah, as they both had net totals of 54.
11-12 Category
George Molloy (Cuddington GC) took his first victory on the BJGT in the 11-12 Division, as his round of 68 was good enough for a 3-shot victory over Josh Gardner (Coventry GC) in second, while Finley White (Kings Hill) secured another podium finish in taking third place just a single shot further back.
9-10 Category
The 9-10 Division was topped by Justin Chenu (Chelsfield Lakes) to take his second win of the season and move into second place on the Order of Merit after his fantastic 54 total for the 14 holes played by the age group divisions. Zahn Bopiah (Mill Ride GC) and Ellis Kerr (The Gog Magog) required a countback to separate them for second and third after matching 58s, with Zahn just getting the decision based on the last three holes, continuing Ellis’s run of countback decisions. A very close battle for the girls in the 9-10 category saw Ajuni Bains take the win by one shot with a 67.
7-8 Category
Ruaan Vamadevan (Wimbledon Park) produced a brilliant round of 53 (+1), including three birdies, to take the win in the 7-8 Division, but only by a single shot from home player, Sully Donald, who also carded three birdies, including the opening two holes. Alexander Dunmall (Kings Hill) matched Sully’s birdie-birdie start, but had to settle for a final total of 56 and third place; however, he maintains his lead at the top of the Order of Merit.
6 & Under Category
Marcus Karim (Chesfield Downs GC) returned to stunning form, as his 14 holes contained five birdies, including three in a row from the 6th on his way to a two-under par round of 49. This ended Theo Oderinde’s (Windlesham GC) run of victories, as he had to settle for second place after his round of 55. They are still virtually inseparable at the top of the OOM table heading into he final two events before the Tour Championship at Foxhills.
The BJGT now takes a break from regular Tour events to concentrate on the first 2021 IMG Academy Junior World Championships Qualifier, at Bourn Golf & Country Cub, on 20 September.
