A lovely atmosphere around the whole venue, new friends made, both adult and junior, a wonderful competition and some exceptional golf sum up this year’s BJGT Summer Cup!
We enjoyed three cracking days of golf, only sporadically interrupted by rain, a very informative and helpful seminar by Keith Haynes from My Golf Mind and a superbly entertaining trick shot show by Dean Davis – thank you, Keith and Dean!
Our thanks also go to Macdonald Hotels Hill Valley Resort for being wonderful hosts, to Head Pro Rob Ashbrook for all his help during the tournament, and to our event sponsor, Alpha Sunglasses, who made 10-year old Lewis Karim very happy, when he won a pair of Oakley sunglasses.

6 & Under Category

The 6 & Under Division saw Stella Walters claim the early lead on Day 1, but was pegged back over the next two days by Marcus Karim to both finish on a total of 142, leaving them as Girls’ and Boys’ Champions, respectively. Alfie Skinner took the win on Day 3 and with it the Boys’ Runner-Up Trophy, with Oscar Rawlinson in third.

7-8 Category

Fraser Mackenzie had a phenomenal week in the 7-8 Division, leading from post to post, with rounds of 38, 37 & 38 (113), to head the age group from Fraser Walters (120) in second, with Alfie Turner making a run on Day 3 with a fine round of 42, which propelled him into third place overall. Georgia Groves more than held her own against the boys in the same division, as her total of 152 saw her claim the Girls’ title.

9-10 Category

Maxi Moore played superbly consistent golf to claim the 9-10 Division Title, although he was put under some pressure during a final round fightback by Luca Randall, who carded the lowest round of the tournament in this category, with 39. Rounds of 42, 40 and 40 saw Maxi finish three shots ahead of Luca, with Michael Haywood secure in third place with a total of 133.
A single shot separated Maisie Whittall and Sapphire Boyce going into the final round, and it was Maisie who carded a second successive round of 48 to take the top spot over the three days.

11-12 Category

The 11-12 Division has been one to watch all season, with some superb golfers taking advantage of course lengths designed for their age. Ben Bolton showed his class and experience, to post a 3-round winning total of -5 (214), despite being put under pressure by Ryan Gavin, who claimed the runner-up trophy. Jayden Phipps, who carded a superb 73, headed the field on the final day to move up into third place overall.

Junior Open Category

The Junior Open Mixed Net Division saw Mark Stockdale continue his fine form this season with rounds of 71, 68 and 68 (207) to finish 12 under par, four shots clear of Max Weaver in second, and home player Charlie Ashbrook, two shots further back.

Ciara Egan took the the Girls’ Gross Division title, as she came back from a disappointing Day 1 with rounds of 76 and 77, to finish clear of Chloe Williamson in second.

Charlie Ashbrook used his home advantage to maximum effect to take the Junior Open Gross title, carding a superb 3-round total of -3 (216), ahead of Max Weaver in second (223), who in turn held off a final round comeback by his brother, Tyler, who took third place.

We’re sure that all the juniors learned a lot over the course of the event, including how to handle the pressure of three consecutive days of golf, playing with different people, and coping with rapidly changing weather conditions.
The bonus points on offer also had some dramatic effects on the Order of Merit tables: Marcus Karim leapt to the top of the 6 & Under division, Fraser Mackenzie now heads the 7-8 Division, Maxi Moore closed the gap to Luca Randall at the top of the 9-10 age group. Ryan Gavin still leads the 11-12s, but Ben Bolton made a huge move up to 4th. Zoe McLean-Tattan jumped to the top of the Junior Open Net Division, with Mark Stockdale the other big mover up to 4th; Jack Lee has overtaken Micah Blowers at the top of the Junior Open Gross Division, with the Weaver brothers unable to be separated in joint 3rd!
The BJGT now moves to an affiliated event at Cranleigh GC, on 18 August, followed by an affiliated event at South Herts on 19 August, and then a BJGT-run event at Haverhill GC on 26 August – we hope that you have a great time at those competitions – meanwhile, enjoy the summer!
