St. Neots GC provided their normal warm welcome and a fantastic set-up to manage social distancing, along with a wonderful test of hard and fast golf. Many thanks to Paul and his team for all their help on the day, we look forward to returning next year!
Near-perfect playing conditions, albeit lacking the sunshine promised until the afternoon, meant that the golf, and enjoyment, was bound to match, as the usual 9-hole event for the younger divisions became a 10-hole competition to bring the players back to the clubhouse.
Junior Open Category
The Junior Open Division Boys Gross was again lead by the in-form Tyler Weaver, as he carded a round of 72, giving him a 2-shot cushion over James Brash in second, and brother, Max, in third, a further two shots back after a countback decision with Theo Morris.
The Girls Gross Division was headed by Amy Nunn who fired a round of 80 to finish three shots ahead of Charlotte Jean, who continued her consistent play.
The Net Division was claimed by Rosie Salter on her first start of the season with a superb round of 65 ahead of Charlie Vaughan, James Brash, Finlay Fergusson and Luca Randall, who all carded matching 69s, but Charlie and James took the respective trophy places on countback.
11-12 Age Group
The 11-12 Division proved as competitive as ever with a quality field on show, meaning the winner could come from a host of players.
On this occasion, Bailee Taylor rose to the top of the table after a fine round of 77, giving him a single shot victory over Harry Howell, with Josh Gardner taking third place with a total of 80.
7-8 Age Group
The 7-8 Division win was taken by Billy Parrish as his round of 43, including three birdies, was deservedly good enough for a 2-shot margin to Ruaan Vamadevan, who picked up the runner-up trophy, while Alexander Dunmall had to settle for third on this occasion after his round of 47.
Amora Rahul secured the win in the Girls 7-8 Division, but only after a countback with Georgia Groves after they both fired matching 53s, as this division also shows how close the players are and the trophy places are anyone’s guess.
6/Under Age Group
Marcus Karim closed the gap even further at the top of the 6 & Under Order of Merit with another win, after posting a total of 42. Alfie Skinner took the runner-up trophy back to Wales, as his 44 pushed Marcus all the way and left him in second place.
No rest for the BJGT, as we now move to St. Ives (Hunts) on Sunday 9th August, for the third event in a week – it’s great to be back!
