Beautiful links course, typical links conditions… minus the sea!

With bright sunny weather, but with a very fresh wind, and hard bouncing fairways, but receptive greens, St. Ives (Hunts) GC set a stern test for the penultimate event of the 2019 OOM Season. Many thanks to the club for having us!

Junior Open Category

For the first time since 2001, the St. Ives (Hunts) Junior Open trophy was up for grabs and it was 12-year old Oliver Toyer who added his name, after an 18-year lay-off, with a fine round of 78 in the testing conditions.
Nihal Shah was only a single shot behind in second, with Satria Cummming and Harry O’Shea tied for third a further shot back.
Elle Redgewell took the Girls Gross title after a round of 85, while Sunny Wang and Zoe Mclean-Tattan couldn’t be separated in second (90).

The Net Division saw Oliver Brightman (67) claim another win and in doing so made the Order of Merit very interesting indeed with only one event to go before the Tour Championship.
He was followed home by a three-way tie for second between Elle Redgewell, Oliver Toyer and Luke Buller, who all had rounds of Net 71.

6 & Under Age Group

The 6 & Under Division was again headed by Sebastian Duffield, but he was pushed all the way by Ruaan Vamadevan after rounds of 42 and 43, repectively, with Mihir Pasura completing the Top 3 after a fine round of 46.

7-8 Age Group

The 7-8 Division also had a familiar look at the top, as Fraser Mackenzie added another winner’s trophy to his collection, but he too was pushed right to the wire, as Zahn Bopiah fired a 39 to finish a single shot behind. Alexander Dunmall continued his fine form taking the third place trophy with a total of 40.

9-10 Age Group

The 9-10 Division wasn’t left out of the nailbiting finishes, as again a single shot separated each of the Top 3 places.
Alexander Mills (44) claimed the win from Luca Randall (45), while Ellis Kerr and Finley White (46) took joint third.
The girls certainly held their own in the division overall, but Maisie Whittall took the girls title with a fine round of 45 ahead of Rosie Salter in second with her round of 47.

11-12 Age Group

Charlie Goodridge continued his good end-of-season form to take another victory in the 11-12 Division, being the only player to break the 80 barrier, his 79 earning him a 4-stroke victory over Antoni Hawkins in second.

The BJGT moves to Cambridge Meridian GC on 22 September, for the final event of the 2019 Order of Merit Season ahead of the Tour Championship at Foxhills G&CC – the tables are incredibly close in many divisions, so those final few points may make all the difference!
