Our annual trip to Royston Golf Club saw some of the calmest and most favourable conditions we’ve seen at the usually blustery venue, so tackling the hills and slopes was certainly just a little easier on this occasion.
While it was the usual 18 holes for the Junior Open and 11-12 Divisions, we adopted a slightly different set up for the younger players: a 10-hole course over holes 1-6 and 15-18 was played by the age group divisions to bring them nicely back to the start.
Below are a few photos taken at the event.

Junior Open Category

The Junior Open Boys Gross Division was topped by Harry Flynn, who recorded his first victory on the BJGT with a superb 2-under total of 68, the same score as Sir Nick Faldo when he won the Junior Open here in 1975! Harry O’Shea chased him home in second, to also jump to second on the Order of Merit table, six shots behind, while William Bailey took third place as he signed for a round of 75.

The Girls Gross winner saw Zoe McLean-Tattan claim her first win of the season with a fine 77, and fourth overall, while Zara Gardam shot an 82 to take the runner-up trophy, with Laura-Mai McCarthy a further four shots back to give her third place.

The Net Division was also deservedly claimed by Harry for a double on the day as his gross 68 resulted in a net 63 and a 3-shot victory over Holly Hartley on her BJGT debut playing very well in second and Zoe McLean-Tattan completed the top 3 with her second trophy of the day, this time for third place, but only after coming off the wrong wide of a countback with Holly over the back 9.

11-12 Category

The 11-12 Division was once again claimed by Josh Gardner, as he tightened his grip on third place on the Order of Merit after a brilliant round of 73. Playing partner, and second placed on the OOM table, Bailee Taylor, took second place eight shots behind, and Sullivan Goddard (83) took third place just a couple of shots further back.

9-10 Category

The hotly contested 9-10 Division proved just that once again as Ellis Kerr secured the win on this occasion, after some very consistent results lately, with a fine effort to card 41 and with it take maximum OOM Points. Justin Chenu finished two shots back in second while Michael Haywood posted a 10-hole total of 46 to take third place.

7-8 Category

Fireworks from the final two groups of the 7-8 Division with some incredible scoring: Ruaan Vamadevan (40) was the best of them all, claiming the win from the final group ahead of Sully Donald (41) who continued his good form over the past few weeks, and Dylan Barney (42) in third after a countback decision over Freddie Buck who matched his 42.

6 & Under Category

Theo Oderinde made it two wins in two days: after returning from Llantrisant & Pontyclun in Wales victorious the previous day, he topped the table again with his round of 42, a single shot better than Marcus Karim in second place.
The BJGT now moves on to Wharton Park, on Sunday, 6 September – another new course on the schedule and Covid-19 replacement venue, so we thank them immensely for that and look forward to our visit!
