Gary and his team at Kirtlington put on a superb event at Kirtlington, the reports from players and parents were hugely complimentary over the whole day, the course was a fantastic test and the organisation first class.
Alexander Mills grabbed his first victory of the season in the Boys 11-12 Division, to improve his position on the Order of Merit table, but only after a countback decision over Ellis Kerr as they both carded fantastic matching 74’s, Riley Banks was just 2-shots further back after his 76 left him in third place, with the top 4 all breaking 90.
Charlie Jenkins was another to take the top spot for the first time in 2021 as he produced a fine 77 to win the Boys 13-14 Division from Arun Ayaru in second, 5-shots behind after an 82.
A single shot separated the top 3 in the Boys Gross section of the Junior Open as the top 10 all carded sub-80 rounds, Fletcher Masterson edged the decision at the top after his round of 72 left him one stroke in front of Jaden Hanson and Joel Warne who both signed for 73’s but Jaden had the better back 9 to come out on top of the countback decision for second and third.
Jaden went one place better in the Net results as his 73 left him with a superb Net 63 to deservedly take the win and maximum points while Joel also rose one place into second with his Net total of 67, Himal Gurung took third place after a 4-way countback was needed to decide the final trophy place after a host of 70’s.
It seems like we are writing about a hole-in-one almost every week and here we are doing it again, as for the fourth time in six events the BJGT has another ACE!
This time it was Josh Schreiber, in the Junior Open, who managed the very impressive feat on the 219yrd Par 3 11th Hole – CONGRATULATIONS Josh, the trophy will be on its way to you.
Megan Bishop claimed the Girls Gross title after her round of 82 left her 2-shots clear of Chrisha Thapa in second and the result was reversed for the Net Division with Chrisha’s net 72 giving her a 2-shot margin over Megan, which just about evened the scores.
The 9-10 Division saw the in-form Fraser Walters do it again with another superb round of lever par, 35, to claim the victory and maximum Order of Merit Points, Thomas James and Zahn Bopiah chased him home as they both signed for 38’s but it was Thomas who got the decision over the last six holes to take the runner-up trophy home.
Maybel Brooks finished at the head the field in the 7-8 Division, making it one of those rare occurrences where a girl beats all the boys, but given how she has been playing it’s not all that surprising, she therefore deservedly took the Girls Division winners trophy home.
Mihir Pasura finished as the leading boy in the same age group as he fired a very respectable round of 39 to finish 2-shots ahead of Tee Rasteiro in second, while Toby Chahrvin and Theo Oderinde finished in joint third with even a countback unable to separate them.
The 6&Under Division was topped by Jack Proctor who put in a fantastic performance on his way to a 41, and a one shot victory, over Brody MacIver (42) with Zachary Blayney in third a further shot behind in a wonderfully close finish.
The BJGT heads straight to Harleyford Golf Club for the next classic in 24hrs time but we very much look forward to getting Kirtlington onto the 2022 schedule.
