In the oldest division playing on the day, the 11-12s, the Boys needed a play-off to decide the Top 2 qualifying places after Ben Bolton and James Stocks both carded rounds of 76 (+2), and what a play-off it was! At the second extra hole, with James already on the green in two, Ben played his 43-yard approach shot, which slam-dunked straight into the hole, barely touching the sides, for an eagle two, and the win. However, both players safely qualified for the Junior World Championships next July.
The Girls 11-12 Division saw Estelle Berbner secure the win with a fine round of 83, ahead of Zara Gardam in second, with both girls securing places on Team BJGT in San Diego.
Hayden Sarfo proved to be the one to beat in the Boys 9-10 Division, as he put on a superb display in posting 78, while Fraser Mackenzie, who is just moving up from the 7-8 Division, showed his class to take second place with a round of 83. Both boys take their place on the BJGT Team, while Casper Van Rensberg took third place just a singe shot behind Fraser.
Sapphire Boyce carded 84 to win her age division and a place in the team travelling to California, with Ava Fegan-Smith in second.
The Boys 7-8 Division was incredibly tight, as expected, and it was Jenson Ringer who claimed the victory by a single shot from his good friend, and home club member, Dylan Barney, after rounds of 83 and 84, respectively. They claimed the two places on offer, while Oliver Hulbert secured third place after a round of 86.
The Girls 7-8 Division was won by Amora Rahul on her BJGT debut, so we certainly look forward to seeing more of her in 2020.
The 6 & Under Division was headed by a familiar face, as Marcus Karim played superbly on his way to a round of 80 to take his place on the BJGT JWC team for the second consecutive year, with Alfie Skinner (93) joining him in 2020 after grabbing second place by a single shot from Theo Oderinde (94).
Another female debutant, Abigail Van Rensberg, took home a winner’s trophy to add to the family trophy cabinet, in the Girls 6 & Under Division, so we’re hoping that she will be leading the way for the girls in this division next season.
Congratulations to all who qualified and very well done to all who played! Many thanks to South Herts GC for kindly hosting this prestigious event! The IMG Academy Junior World Championships Qualifiers now move on to Woodhall Spa Golf Club, where a 36-hole competition will see the places awarded in the 13-14 and 15-18 Divisions.
