Perfect, glorious golfing conditions met the players at Canons Brook GC

Perfect, glorious golfing conditions met the players at Canons Brook GC, in the morning at least; the later-starting, younger players, however, endured a brief blast of freshening breeze and rain, but they all received the warmest of welcomes!
The club arranged range balls especially for the juniors, starters on the tee, marshals on the course, exactly the type of support that we always hope for from a host venue – we can’t thank them enough for stepping in as a late venue change (special thanks go to Junior Organiser, Ross Garrard) and we are already looking forward to the event next season.

Junior Open Category

The Junior Open players had the added honour of playing for the club’s Sir Henry Cotton Trophy, awarded to the lowest gross score and which was being played for for the first time in almost a decade. This was duly won by Sam Epstein after his excellent, level par round of 73, giving him a single shot victory over Lucas Dennison, while Daniel Prince, carding a round of 75, took the bronze medal in third in a very tight finish at the top of the Boys Gross Division.
The Girls Gross Division was headed by Laura-Mai McCarthy, as she produced a fine round of 80, which amounted to another single shot winning margin over Renoa Azmir in second and Zoe McLean-Tattan in third a further shot back.
The Net Division saw Renoa Azmir go one place better, card a nice 69 and gain maximum Order of Merit points ahead of Lucas Dennison who took home another second place trophy, but only after a countback, while Daniel Prince added another third place trophy after his round of 70, edging a 3-way countback on the same score.

11-12 Category

The 11-12 Division saw Frankie Morton take his second win in two days at the first two events of the ‘Essex Swing’, as he produced a brilliant second successive round, this time going under par with a 72. Bailee Taylor came home in second, for the second day running, six shots behind, as Finley White (83) had the better back 9 to grab third after a countback with Patrick Chenu.

9-10 Category

A hugely talented 9-10 field was on display at Canons Brook and they certainly didn’t disappoint: Kodi Dean should be rather pleased with his day in topping the lot, as his sub-par round of 37 secured an impressive win. AJ Van Emmenis grabbed second place after posting a total of 38, while one-over-par was ‘only’ good enough to place third for Fraser Walters.

7-8 Category

Sully Donald continued his blistering form in Essex, making it two wins from two, as he posted a fantastic total of 37, but he was matched by another in-form player in Alexander Dunmall and needed a countback to edge it; they were chased home by Jenson Ringer with a round of 39 to finish in third place.

6 & Under Category

The 6 & Under Division was again headed by Marcus Karim who is proving that he is the one to beat this season by adding to his phenomenal run of results, this time signing for a round of 40 ahead of Alfie Skinner in second, four shots back, with Theo Oderinde taking third a further two shots behind.
The BJGT ‘Essex Swing’ ends on Thursday (27 August) with an affiliated event at South Essex GC – we are sure that Emily, Ed, Mark and the team will put on a cracking event for you all. The Tour then moves to South Wales with an affiliated event at Llantrisant & Pontyclun on 31 August and is then quickly followed by a return to Royston GC, in Hertfordshire, on 1 September. The ‘Race to Foxhills’ is definitely on!
