Sunshine, showers, varying strengths of wind and torrential rain…

The final event of the regular season ahead of the Tour Championship saw Cambridge Meridian GC set the challenge along with just about every weather condition possible on 22 September. Periods of sunshine, showers, varying strengths of wind and torrential rain all made for a very interesting and challenging end to the season. Many thanks to Cambridge Meridian GC for hosting and for their help on the day. Our thanks also go to event sponsor, JMJ Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, which have kindly sponsored all our events in Cambridgeshire this season. We are always on the lookout for businesses and organisations which are keen to support grass roots golf, so please get in touch if you would be interested in collaborating with us next season.

Junior Open Category

Dan Wallace (Colne Valley GC) topped the table in the Boys Gross Division of the Junior Open with a fine effort in carding a round of 78, ahead of a 3-way tie for second between Matthew Sandy (Crowlands Heath GC), Teddy Hall (Bury St Edmunds GC) and new Order of Merit leader, Tyler Weaver (Bury St Edmunds).
Sunny Wang (Ipswich GC) matched Dan at the top of the Girls Gross Division with a round of 78, with Olivia Wynne (Bourn GC) in second having posted a total of 83.
The Mixed Net Division almost unsurprisingly was dominated by the same players, as Sunny Wang made it a double on the day taking her second winner’s trophy of the afternoon with a net 67, Oliver Brightman (Romford GC) came home in second two shots behind, but in doing so climbed to the top of the Order of Merit table, with another 3-way tie in third between Matthew Sandy, Olivia Wynne and Callum Dunlop (Cambridge Meridian GC), who all posted rounds of Net 70.

11-12 Age Group

The 11-12 Division saw Harry Howell (76; Gog Magog GC) take his first win of the season with a 2-shot victory over Ronnie Groves (Enville GC) and Rohan Neat (Ely City GC) who gave us another tie in second.

9-10 Age Group

Luca Randall (Cambridge Meridian GC) added another winner’s trophy to his cabinet in the 9-10 Division following a round of 42, while Alexander Mills continued his good form in second with his round of 44, a single shot in front of Maxi Moore (Hillside GC) in third. The Girls 9-10 Division was won by Maisie Whittall (Gaudet Luce GC) with 50, with Sapphire Boyce (Little Hay GC) in second, two shots back.

7-8 Age Group

Fraser Mackenzie (Inverness GC) continued his amazing season with another victory in the 7-8 Division, just a single shot ahead of Zahn Bopiah (Windlesham GC), with Jenson Ringer (Rochester & Cobham Park) pushing both all the way in third after posting a total of 41.

6 & Under Age Group

The 6 & Under Division was headed once again by Sebastian Duffield (Windlesham GC), who produced another stand out performance with a brilliant round of 36, Freddie Buck (Hadley Wood GC) returned to the trophy table in second with a total of 40, with Marcus Karim (Chesfield Downs GC) in third just a single shot further back.

The BJGT now heads to Foxhills Golf & Country Club and the Tour Championship in two weeks’ time for what promises to be a fitting finish to the 2019 season, with a number of Order of Merit tables coming right down to the wire.
