With everything in their favour and a pairs scramble format, using 1/5 of combined handicaps, we knew that the players would be likely to go low and a very good score would be required to feature in the podium places.
Team Ferneyhough, consisting of Chloe and dad Lee, went lowest of all on their first start of the series, to claim the victory and the very nice Winners’ Silver Salver.
Their superb round of Net 42 gave them a 3-shot victory over the field and a 4-way tie behind them in an incredibly close finish for the remaining places.
Team Pickavance, Rex and dad James on this occasion, grabbed second place by virtue of their final 6 holes, as they came out on top of the countback, with Rex moving up to 3rd on the Order of Merit.
Team Greve, Michael and dad Carsten, also on their first start of the series, were another team to open their account with a superb Top 3 finish, as they claimed the final piece of silverware.
Nicholas Locke and grandma Rosemary, and Florrie Collins with dad Joe, were the other two teams to finish on 45, but just missed out on the trophy places by the narrowest of margins.
We also had four opportunities to win Nearest-the-Pin prizes, with holes 1, 3, 12 and 18 all carrying the bonus of half a dozen balls for those who knocked it closest.
Hole 1 went to Kodi Dean.
Hole 3 was claimed by Lee Ferneyhough.
Hole 12 saw Nicholas Locke put his tee shot closest.
Hole 18 was won by Pierluigi Orsi.
Congratulations to all the winners, great shots from all of them!
Our thanks go to Thornbury Golf Centre for their hospitality and all the players as usual for their support – these events are a real highlight of the 2022 season.
The BJGT now heads straight over to Wales for 3 days of competition taking in 3 different courses, beginning with the stunning Cradoc Golf Club, who host the BJGT Wales Open – Cymru dyma ni’n dod!
