WE MADE IT!!

After an extraordinary season, we, the caddies, parents and the players, thankfully made it through to the 2020 Tour Championship at the magnificent, family-friendly Foxhills Resort. Many thanks to the club for having us again and to Chris Fitt, Sean Graham and Greg Hopkins for all their help in organising and running the day, it is very much appreciated!

The autumnal weather held for us, giving us a calm, dry day and all three courses were in fantastic condition ready for the finale of the largest and best junior golf tour in the UK.

With some wonderful glassware on offer for the Tour Championship Top 3, it was always going to be an exciting day’s play at the season’s flagship event.
With live scoring in operation through GolfHubber, it made for a real sense of occasion and, as many players and caddies have said throughout the year, a real feeling of playing like the professionals!

All photos below are available to purchase.

6 & Under Category

What a finish! The Tour Championship 6 & Under Division, which was played on The Manor course, was claimed by Theo Oderinde on countback, after a fabulous back 9 to rein in Marcus Karim, as they both carded matching 75s, and the one-two meant, incredibly, that they also tied at the top of the Order of Merit, leaving it to be decided on the number of wins throughout the season. Abhay Kapoor came home in third just a single shot back on 76 to complete an incredible conclusion to the youngest division.

7-8 Category

The 7-8 Division also saw an incredible finish to the year, as Alexander Dunmall stormed to victory in the Tour Championship producing a brilliant round of 76 around the Bernard Hunt course to take the title and cap a fabulous year. Dylan Barney finished 5 shots behind to miss out on the win, but he should be very proud of his efforts, while Oliver Hulbert took third place on countback from Jenson Ringer after their matching rounds of 83 to complete the boys’ podium.
Georgia Groves finished the season with a win in the Girls Division after her round of 100, ahead of Stella Walters (109) in second, as they flew the flag for the younger girls at the season finale.

9-10 Category

The 9-10 Division was always going to be a difficult one to call with so many talented boys in the field, but it was Ellis Kerr (79), so often on the wrong end of countback decisions this season, who didn’t leave it to fate by claiming an impressive 3-shot victory over Fraser Walters (82), who made the trip from Scotland to finish his season on a high in second place. AJ Van Emmenis (84) also ended his season strongly coming home in third place in the quality field tackling the Bernard Hunt course.

11-12 Category

On the Longcross course, Frankie Morton produced a magnificent Tour Championship display to head the field, with a round of 75 in the 11-12 Division, to make it three wins from three starts on the BJGT this season. Ronnie Groves narrowly missed out on capping his season with the Tour Championship title, as he finished as the runner-up but only by the narrowest of margins after his 76, with Alfie Dorrrington grabbing third after a countback decision over Isaac Jones, as they both finished a further two shots back.

Junior Open Category

Both the Tour Championship Junior Open Divisions, Gross and Net, were claimed by Harry O’Shea, as he dominated at the final event. His level par, Gross 72/Net 71 were one shot good enough to give him victory in both categories. Tyler Weaver took second place in the Gross Division after his round of 73, ahead of Micah Blowers in third, a further shot back, while those places were reversed for the Net result, as Micah’s 71 put him second on countback with Harry, and Tyler’s 72 left him in third place.

With the 2020 season out of the way, we now look forward to next season with optimism and are pleased to announce the release of the 2021 schedule on Friday, 23rd October. While BJGT membership is optional, if you do intend to purchase this, please do so before Friday and ensure that you use your code prior to making payment when booking events, as this cannot be retrospectively applied. Many thanks!
Let’s do it all again, everyone, bigger and better in 2021!
