Magnolia Park GC Junior Open & Jakarta World Junior Golf Championship Qualifier

We knew that Magnolia Park would provide a stern test for the players even in fine conditions, but when the wind blows, it turns into a bit of a monster!

When unforecast rain was thrown sideways into the mix for around half an hour in the latter stages, it became a real test of patience and attrition.

An unbelievable finish in the Boys 15-17 age group saw three players tie at the top on 86, with another player just a shot further back, meaning a 3-way playoff was needed to decide the winner!

Josh Wilks-Hanley edged out Harry West and Trafford Grimes at the first extra hole to claim his place on the BJGT team at Ciputra World Junior Championship in Jakarta.

Jessica Sporle took the girls 15-17 top spot on the day, but was merely playing for ‘fun’, as her handicap falls just outside the requirements set by the organisers in Jakarta.

Jake Sowden was desperate to secure a starting spot on the BJGT team, having had a fantastic experience in Jakarta this year and he held his nerve to head the Boys 13-14 division from Zac Tilling, who had a nervous wait to claim the runner-up place after a fine round.

Another play-off was required to separate the 13-14 Girls division, as Louise Burke and Ashleigh Critchley both carded 84s; this time the second extra hole decided matters, with Louise coming out on top and taking the place on the 2018 Jakarta team.

We also ran two age-group divisions that saw Jessica Pilgrim continue her good form to finish ahead of Conor Anstiss in the 11-12 age group and Jayden Phipps made a winning return to the BJGT to take the 9-10 title by a single shot from Finlay Rennie who, in turn, was a single stroke in front of Ronnie Groves.

This event marks the end of the 2017 British Junior Golf Tour season, thank you all so much for your support! We will be back early in 2018 with more amazing opportunities for junior golfers across the country.
