IMG Academy Junior World Championships 2019 Qualifier

Youngsters take centre stage!
After the delay for the older age groups, all eyes were on the younger competitors at Cambridge Meridian GC, as they battled it out for their 2019 IMG Academy Junior World Championships places, and what a display they put on!
Conditions were horrendous for the first half of the day. Play started at 9 am and the rain didn’t let up until the final group made their way down the first hole, 3 1/2 hours later. The afternoon weather could not have been more different, with largely blue skies, finally giving the early starters a little time to dry out.
The boys 9-10 provided the closest finish, with two boys who represented the BJGT and UK at the IMGA Junior World Championships in the past, Hayden Sarfo and Luca Randall, requiring a nerve-jangling play-off to decide the top spot, after going head to head over 18 holes, producing matching 81s. Following a superb approach from 150 yards at the first extra hole, Hayden Sarfo claimed the win, leaving Luca in the runner-up position, with Ambrose Eaves taking 3rd after an 86. As Luca is not able to travel to San Diego next year, the two places in the IMGA Junior World Championships go to Hayden and Ambrose.  Full Results
The 9-10 girls division was headed by two girls with past Junior World Championships experience, with Lila-Belle Nacca taking the win after carding 94 and Arianna Virik taking the second place with 107, so both will be heading back to sunny California in 2019. Full Results
The boys 7-8 age group was dominated by players making a long trip down from Scotland. Fraser Walters produced the round of the day, with a brilliant 78 to claim a deserved win, while Fraser Mackenzie fired an 82 to finish in 3rd. They were separated by Matthew Whitaker’s superb 79.
Fraser Walters and Matthew therefore claim their places in San Diego.  Full Results
