A much reduced field at Wharton Park, which is such a shame given what a lovely venue and course this is!

The BJGT is desperate to take events to the midlands and up, but without the players we simply can’t put the events on.
Please keep spreading the word as we know the players must be there.
The weather turned out to be much better than it might have been, with some questionable forecasts the outlook wasn’t great, but the wind kept virtually all the rain away although this did bring it’s own difficulties.
The fireworks came from the final group of the 11-12 Division as Hayden Sarfo and Maxi Moore went head to head and fired superb rounds to head the field.
Hayden, making his first start of the 2021 season, was the one who came out on top as he fired a hugely impressive level-par round of 72 to finish 2 shots ahead of Maxi who had a fine 74 of his own, with Fallow Sawyers-Grandon coming home in third a further 5 shots back as the top 3 all broke the 80 barrier.
The Junior Open was a combined affair at Wharton Park but the girls more than held their own!
Sam Cox secured a daily double of winners trophies as he topped both Gross and Net Divisions with his round of 83 net 73 good enough by single shots in both sets of results, Eleanor Lichtenhein finished second in the gross table, on her 12th birthday, while it was Harry Bryce in the net table, Oscar Bolton then claimed both third place trophies after his round of 86 net 76.
The 7-8 Division was the largest and arguably the strongest in depth on the day, as a quality field took to the fairways to battle it out for those all important Order of Merit Points.
It was a brilliant BJGT debut win for Leo Taylor as he was the second player on the day to card a level-par round, in not the easiest conditions, as he signed for a 12 hole total of 47 to give him maximum points on his first start and a 1-shot victory over Marcus Karim in second, after his impressive 48, while Jack Harris had his first podium finish on the BJGT as he came home in third a further 4 shots behind, overcoming Maybel Brooks via a countback.
The 9-10 Division saw Fraser Walters also break the 50 barrier, as he signed for a +2 total of 49 for the 12 holes to continue his good run of form to top the table and add another nice piece of glassware to his cabinet, Byron Clements was another first time podium finisher as he claimed second place after his round of 53 while Thomas James also secured another BJGT trophy in a fantastic recent run of top 3 finishes.
The BJGT now travels east to The Leicestershire Golf Club, another first time venue for us, as the last of a hectic run of events over the summer.
