Ethan Roos claimed his first victory of the season and a Gross Division Major is always a great time to do it – his 74 was very impressive in the hard and fast conditions and good enough to earn a 2-shot victory with maximum OOM points.
Behind Ethan, a pair of 76s from Jaden Hanson and Kaiden Ironside required a countback decision to decide the final order of the trophy places.
Jaden got the nod with his 1-under back 9 enough to give him the runner-up place, while Kaiden settled for third.
Ali-Asgher Haji returned to the BJGT for the first time this season and promptly started with a win in the Net Division.
He fired a fabulous round of 68 to top the table and claim the Major total and the beautiful glass trophy.
Just a single shot further back, Charlie Jenkins signed for a 69 to take second place, with a round that included a nice eagle 3 on the 9th.
A further shot behind, a 3-way tie needed the countback decision to decide the final podium place.
Jaden Hanson got the decision over Ethan and Luca Randall based on his back 9, to add a second trophy to his daily haul.
The Girls Junior Open Gross Division saw two classy players battle it out at the top, as Maisie Whittall and Ellie Lichtenhein could not be separated on the scorecard.
With both girls carding rounds of 75, a countback decision was required, with Maisie coming out on top after her back 9, which included four birdies in 5 holes. This was good enough to give her the Major title and maximum OOM points.
Ellie settled for second and the runner-up trophy but still picked up good Order of Merit points to extend her lead at the top of the overall table.
The Net Division saw a commanding performance from Alicia Drame – she was superb on her way to a stunning 65 to deservedly take the Major title, the beautiful glass trophy and OOM points that move her into the Top 5.
She was followed home by Amelia McGinty, who extended her lead at the top of the Order of Merit by producing a round of 72 to take the runner-up position.
Amelia is having a superb season and is the one player whose great attitude and demeanour never change, a great example to everyone.
The Boys 9-12 Junior Open Gross Division had arguably the stand-out performance of the day, with Rhys Hughes signing for a brilliant 73 in the testing conditions.
This gave him a clear 6-shot margin to claim the Major title and maximum bonus Order of Merit points, with Oliver McDonnell and Kodi Dean in a tie behind him.
It was Oliver who got the decision based on his back 9, to take the runner-up trophy, as he also looked to strengthen his position at the top of the Order of Merit ahead of Kodi, who was chasing him in third both on the day and overall.
Tanus Van Molendorf produced yet another incredible display after his Summer Cup efforts last week, as he fired a 62 to top the table once again.
Tanus has had a habit this season of carding some very low scores and did it again to claim a Major title and extend his lead at the top of the Order of Merit standings.
Rhys showed what a fabulous round his was, as he added the Net runner-up prize to his gross win with the resulting 63.
Timo Herr, the long-time clubhouse leader, having signed for a round of 66, was pushed down to third place at the close of play, but it was a great effort on his second BJGT start to get a Major podium finish.
The 9-10 Division finished with a result we don’t see all that often but given how close these boys are, it isn’t a surprise when it does!
A tie between Vinnie James and Jenson Ringer couldn’t even be separated by the countback method, as they had matching rounds of 40 that were identical over the last 6, last 3 and a pair of birdies on the last!
This meant that we declared a tie at the top with both boys taking home winners’ trophies, as this seemed a fitting result.
Albert Lees finished just a single shot behind the leading pair, as he came home in 41 shots, including a lovely eagle on the 7th, to grab the final podium and trophy place.
Two shots separated the Top 4 boys in the 7-8 Division, as the tight finishes continued.
Marcus Karim continued his stellar season with yet another superb performance, with another Major title in the Masters, showing that he can play all over the world.
His round of 38 gave him a single shot victory over Alfie Skinner, as everything came down to the final hole, with Marcus making his par to edge the victory.
Behind Alfie, Zachary Blayney and Harry Odell finished one shot back, as they both had rounds of 40 – this result was separated by countback, with Zach taking the final trophy place based on the final six holes.
The other standout performance on the day, and certainly one to rival Rhys in the 9-12s, came from Oscar Ross who produced a magical 36, 1-under par!
This included an eagle 3 on the last to cap a stunning round that left him five shots clear of the field. Hamza Marfleet and Alexander Bird then continued the run of scores requiring a countback, as they had matching 41s.
Hamza was the one who took this decision based on the final six holes, to take the runner-up trophy home, while Alexander placed third for his first podium finish of the season to make a Major trophy the first for his cabinet.
