Our first visit to Burnham-on-Crouch and quite possibly not the last, as a very warm welcome from the club and plenty of help on hand

(with special thanks to Junior Organiser, Andi Turner, who couldn’t have done more), always makes for a good event!
After a brief but heavy downpour an hour before the start of play, the day started overcast but the course remained in fantastic condition.
With a 2-tee start, the morning was quite a busy affair with the younger, 9-hole, divisions heading out on the back 9, while the 18-hole players tackled the front 9 to then follow on behind the younger players.

6 & Under Category

The 6 & Under Division were the first out, and therefore first back in, as the presentations came in thick and fast from lunchtime. Brody MacIver claimed yet another victory in a storming season with a fine round of 42, Zachary Blayney took the runner-up trophy on his BJGT debut after his round of 56 (we look forward to seeing plenty more of him on Tour), while Jack Proctor was third on 59.

7-8 Category

Marcus Karim made a late entry to the event and it turned out to be a great decision, as he took the honours in the 7-8 Division, continuing his rise up the Order of Merit table, posting a fine round of 41 to finish just a single shot ahead of Leo Boniface in second. Maybel Brooks again mixed it with the boys, securing third place with 44, as all three look to chase down Theo Oderinde at the top of the OOM table.

9-10 Category

The 9-10 Division was as competitive as ever, albeit with a slightly reduced field, as Fraser Mackenzie and AJ Van Emmenis carded almost identical rounds of 41, only being separated on the final hole, which saw Fraser grab the narrowest of winning margins. AJ still extended his lead at the top of the Order of Merit table with his runner-up points, as Oliver McDonnell secured third place, four shots behind.

11-12 Category

Kodi Dean took his maiden victory of the 2021 season after a fine round of 80, taking top spot in the 11-12 Division and maximum Order of Merit points. He was chased home by the Chenu brothers, but it was Patrick who came out on top of the sibling rivalry, as his 82 left him in second, with Justin in third, three shots further back.

13-14 Category

The 13-14 Division produced a very close finish, as single shots separated the top three places, and gave another first victory of the season, this time to Edward Mason, who took the spoils after a cracking round of 74 gave him a 1-shot victory over Oliver Baker, who in turn finished 1-shot ahead of William Wright.

Junior Open Category

Both Girls Junior Open Divisions were dominated by Mia Barningham, her 82 being good enough to claim the gross title by a single shot from Renoa Azmir, who grabbed second after a countback with Eleanor Lichtenhein.
Mia’s 82 led to a net 71, which was good enough to give her a 2-shot victory margin, with Renoa again coming home in second, as the two girls claimed all four trophies between them.
The Boys Gross title was won by Theo Baker, who fired a superb round of 72 to deservedly take the winner’s trophy. He finished three shots clear of  Freddie Sartoris in second, who was another needing a countback to get the decision, as he and Matthew Sandy both signed for rounds of 75.
Freddie Sartoris went one place better in the Boys Net division, as his 75 gave a net total of 67. However, he needed his second countback decision of the day, as Freddie Raven matched his 67 but lost out over the back 9. Theo also claimed his second trophy of the day, as his net 68 secured third place after yet another countback decision, with Oliver Brightman on the wrong end of this one, again over the back 9.
There is now a short break for the BJGT before a very busy period at the start of the summer holiday, which will see two events in two days, including the second major of the year (the British JGT Masters at Old Fold Manor), and then on to the eagerly anticipated 3-day Summer Cup at Belton Woods.
