The final regular tour event of 2020 saw persistent rain all day at Bourn G&CC…

This meant that it was always going to be a war of attrition just to get round, so all those who braved the conditions deserve recognition for doing just that in their quest for all important OOM points!
The course, however, remained in great condition despite the amount of water falling on it, so it was fantastic to be able to get the event played. Many thanks to Bourn for having us again and for all their help on the day (special thanks to Karen, our starter for the younger age divisions).
As our juniors battled through awful conditions in Cambridgeshire, BJGT Alumnus and Tour Ambassador, Aaron Rai, fired his way to a superb -7 round of 64 in the final round of the 2020 Aberdeen Standard Scottish Open and into a play-off with Ryder Cup star, Tommy Fleetwood, which he ultimately won at the first extra hole.
Some 12 years ago Aaron was doing the same things as you, gaining experience in junior competitions on the BJGT, always with two gloves, and the same quiet, methodical and unassuming manner.
Aaron is now inside the Top 100 players in the world and it is fantastic to see his journey unfold, so just know that you’re all doing the right things to follow in his footsteps! Huge congratulations from all of us, Aaron!

Junior Open Category

A three-way tie in the Boys Gross Division, with three players shooting 78 saw George Jackson take maximum Order of Merit points, ahead of Patrick Mclean-Tattan, runner-up, and William Bailey in third.
Zoe McLean-Tattan took the Girls Gross Division win with her round of 88.
The Junior Open Net Division saw Rosie Salter take the honours with a fantastic score of 68, to win by four, and indicated just how tough the conditions were out there. Patrick McLean-Tattan (78) took home the runner-up trophy, while Will Bailey matched the 78, but lost the countback decision, taking away with the third place trophy.

11-12 Category

The 11-12 Division was again headed by Josh Gardner, who overcame a shaky start to claim his fifth win of the season with a round of 79, putting Patrick Chenu in second, five shots behind, and Sullivan Goddard came home in third place, one shot back, following his round of 85.

6 & Under Category

The 6 & Under Division lead the way for the 8-hole players, reduced from 9 holes due to the major works to the main clubhouse. It was Marcus Karim who coped best with the difficult conditions to post a superb level-par total of 33, four shots in front of Theo Oderinde, who took second place, while Vince Chung had his first podium finish grabbing third place after he carded a total of 44.

7-8 Category

The 7-8 Division was topped by Jenson Ringer, as he produced a fine round of 35 to deservedly take the winner’s trophy. Alexander Dunmall chased him home finishing just a single shot behind, while third place was taken by Billy Parrish, after his round of 38.

9-10 Category

An incredible five-way tie at the top of the Boys 9-10 Division saw five boys all carding 38 and once again proved what a fantastically competitive age group this is! Jack Stockton was the one who edged the decision of the incredible countback ahead of Justin Chenu in second, with AJ Van Emmenis grabbing third, but we must also mention Ellis Kerr and Isaac Wakefield, who also matched them but just missed out on the trophy places. Amelia McGinty took home the Girls Winner’s trophy after her round of 51.

The BJGT now heads to Foxhills Golf & Country Club for the season-ending Tour Championship on 18 October – this will see the Order of Merit finalists compete for fabulous on-the-day Tour Championship trophies and also see all the 2020 Tour Champions collect their fantastic OOM trophies and prizes after what has been a very difficult season, to say the least. Thank you all for the continued support!
