Teddy Hall – BJGT Par 3 Champion after thrilling playoff!
On a glorious sunny day at the one and only Nailcote Hall, we were treated to some quite outstanding golf from every age division.
The owner of Nailcote Hall, Rick Cressman, had got the course in perfect condition, as usual, with receptive greens a must on this very demanding layout.
Just a few days before his 11th birthday, Ben Bolton produced one of the outstanding rounds of the day, in the 9-10 age group, with a superb 60 (+6) to win by 11 shots from Luca Randall in second. Sam McIntyre claimed 3rd after a one-shot shootout win on the 9th (from 50 yards), having finished tied with Daniel Agapito on 78.
Ryan Gavin was equally impressive in the 11-12 division, with a brilliant 60 to take the top spot from Jenson Berridge in second, 9 shots back. Kailiash Krishan and Jayden Phipps also required a one-shot shootout to decide the 3rd place after matching 72s, with Kai the victor.
With a pair of 60s on the board, the older players in the afternoon knew that they had no room for error, so Ben watched on keenly to see if any could better his total.
And the answer was yes…but only just!
Daniel Edes and defending champion Jacob Jones both matched the 60, although this was only good enough for third and fourth place, and were only separated by a countback, which gave Daniel the third place trophy.
Teddy Hall and Max Weaver were the only ones to better 60, as they produced superb matching 58s at the head of the field, so required an extra hole to separate them.
Teddy won the toss and elected to play first, which proved the right decision, as he produced a fine tee shot into the 9th, finishing pin high and just left of the flag on the front of the green.
With the pressure on and knowing that he needed a good shot, Max went straight at the pin; unfortunately, he was a yard out, as his ball clattered into the wooden boards and into the water in front of the green. This left Teddy to claim the BJGT Par 3 Champion Trophy.
Teddy, Max, Daniel, Jacob, Ryan, Jenson, Ben, and Luca all qualify for Monday Junior Qualifying at the British Par 3 Championship in August, where we hope that one of them will progress to the main event, the Pro-Am and Professional Par 3.
Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to Rick and Nailcote Hall!
The BJGT now returns to the Order of Merit, with Thorpe Hall GC on 1 August (event run directly by the club on the day), followed by our first 3-day event, The Golf College Championship, 10-12 August, at Lindfield GC (near Brighton). Juniors can play 1, 2, or all 3 days, with trophies and OOM points available each day, as well as crowning an overall champion in each category on the last day. There are only a few places remaining, so please book as soon as possible, if you would like to join us.
