A certain Mr N Faldo’s name appears on the Royston Junior Open Trophy and honours’ board, so prestigious footsteps were being followed by the players today!
The course provides a test unlike any other on the BJGT, with its very steep hills and sloping fairways…great practice for the ‘hanging lie’. 😉

Many thanks to Ryan Wingate and the rest of the team at the club for helping us achieve another successful event!

Junior Open

Max Weaver added his name to the list of champions in the Gross Division, and deservedly so, with a fine round of 68 (-2), with his brother, Tyler (76), following him home in second and Jack Lee (78) completing the Top 3. Max made it a double-win by also claiming the first place (63) in the Nett Division, with Louisa Molloy in second on 70 and Ben Sessions in third on 71.

11-12 Category

The 11-12 Division saw Alexander Coombs-Brown (89) claim his first victory on the BJGT, with James Pett (94) claiming the silver medal.

6/Under Category

The 6 & Under Division led the way for the 9-hole players this week (and, due to the layout of the course, they actually played 10 holes at this event): the top two were head-to-head in group 1, with Toby Chahrvin edging out playing partner, Freddie Buck, by a single shot, after rounds of 45 and 46, respectively, as Mihir Pasura took the bronze medal.

7-8 Category

Yet another nail-biting finish in the 7-8 Division saw Oliver McDonnell continue his good form to claim a narrow victory via countback from Zahn Bopiah after matching 44s over the 10 holes; Adian Van Emmenis was just a single shot further back in third.

9-10 Category

Closing the play at Royston, the 9-10 Division saw Luca Randall return to winning ways, having decided to go it alone without a caddie, which looked like a good move, as his 44 was good enough to take the gold medal ahead of Lila-Belle Nacca on 47 and Freddie Raven on 48 in third, again playing 10 holes.

Drayton Park Abingdon Golf Club host the next round of the BJGT with an affiliated event on the 28th July, before the highly anticipated 3-day Summer Cup begins at Hill Valley GC the following day.
