With the course setup as tough as you’re likely to find it, the rough as high and thick as Shinnecock Hills, but the greens thankfully not quite as quick, keeping the ball in play was rule no. 1!
Watching the live scores in the clubhouse made for thrilling viewing, as scores and places switched numerous times throughout the afternoon.
Those out early, Team Randall and Team Beeden scored steadily to post 30 points, but Team Evans came home with 32 to take the clubhouse lead!
With Aaron Evans monitoring the leaderboard very closely, Team Calland and Team Gall, playing in the same group towards the end of the field, both looked to be scoring well, but could they maintain it over the tough closing holes? The emphatic answer was ‘Yes’!
Team Gall – Ethan and Andy – closed to within 1 point of Team Calland – Dylan and Paul – with a cracking net par on 17, meaning that, in true BJGT style, it all came down to the Par 5 18th and the infamous island green!
Both pairs fired matching scores for the hole, which meant that Team Calland held on to win by a single point, 37 to 36, in dramatic fashion.
Our huge congratulations go to Dylan and Paul, our 2018 Family Foursomes Champions!
The BJGT returns to the Order of Merit and strokeplay format in 2 weeks’ time, when we are down on the south coast, at Littlestone Warren Golf Club.
